Care Instructions

Well-made pieces reward care. A few habits will keep yours looking as it did the day it arrived.

Read the label first

Each piece carries its own care label. Where the label differs from the guidance below, follow the label — it is specific to that fabric and construction.

Washing

Wash cold, on a gentle cycle, turned inside out and with similar colours. Use a mild detergent and skip fabric softener — it coats fibres and dulls the finish over time. Wash less often than you think; airing a garment overnight is usually enough.

Drying

Air dry flat or on a shaped hanger, away from direct sunlight and radiators. Tumble drying shrinks fibres and shortens the life of a garment. Never wring a piece to remove water — press it gently between towels instead.

Ironing & steaming

Iron on low, inside out, with a pressing cloth for delicate fabrics. Steaming is gentler than ironing and better for structured pieces — it relaxes creases without flattening the weave.

Knitwear

Fold knitwear rather than hanging it — hangers stretch the shoulders permanently. Remove pills with a fabric comb, working in one direction. Store folded in a dry drawer with a cedar block.

Leather & hardware

Wipe leather with a soft dry cloth and condition it occasionally. Keep it away from prolonged damp and direct heat. Remove metal hardware from contact with perfume, lotion and chlorine, and polish it with a dry cloth rather than a chemical cleaner.

Stains

Act quickly. Blot — never rub — with a clean damp cloth, working from the outside of the mark inwards. For anything oily or set, take the piece to a professional cleaner rather than experimenting at home.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry, dark place. Use broad wooden or padded hangers for structured pieces, give garments room to breathe, and avoid plastic covers for long periods — they trap moisture.
